Anya Stroud Geared for War by artanis-one Anya Stroud Geared for War by artanis-one
How do you turn a man into a machine? You tell him there is a chance that he can better his life. You show him a contest where he knows he will be the underdog. You tempt him with dreams of grandeur. It makes him doubt in his own abilities, He loses days where he could be working, questioning whether he can pull off something in such a short period of time.
He has no choice but to finish.
If he quits, he'll knows that it was all for nothing.

Also, finding out the art director at EPIC also sculpts and appreciates the art form (via $dollwithagun 's interviews) makes me push myself harder to strive at excellence.

As a traditional artist. I need to translate whats inside of me through my hands. I love making gold out of clay.

My commitment to this project was a soul shattering experience.

I also turned my apartment into a photography studio for this. Fun.

Anya Stroud 1/6th scale sculpted in 13 days.
Super sculpey 50/50 firm mix, aluminum foil and mesh.
1 Day for armature.
1 Day for setting up a photoshoot and photoshop into a background for the contest.
I've sacrificed a lot. Sculpting after work til 3 AM every night.
Taken 2 days off from work. Just to push myself.
The last 5 days, I didn't leave the house. 60+ hours. Fully Articulated. Head turns, Abdomen turns, chest turns.and all other appendages can move.
It would have been easier to sculpt a static sculpture yes. But I feel the need to punish myself.

Rift omen was used from asset pack and then redrawn in photoshop.

The lines are inspired by sculpting the lines in the lancer and clean lines of the armor. Thanks for looking

How are you liking it? 5th Week, hm? You better be putting in mad outside hours at home or where ever. Seriously, James if you have him at your disposal, ask him for critiques and advice, Hell it's what you pay for :)

yeah im about to ask him stuff next week haha next week is the time that really kicks in our work. for the past 4 weeks we've just been following his instruction of armature.. and thats it.. but now that we can build our forms, i can actually ask for critiques
its awesome! i learned a lot from him.. now i know what ive been doing wrong. all of it starts to make sense.. why this has to be that and that has to be this..

Ray, that's a winner!
I'm completly blown away by your work, not only that amount of detail you put in here but also how fast you finished!
You must have been working all day and night and you defenitely showed some cool and steady attitude, if you know what I mean.

Hope I made you proud. I'm glad you understand the hell I went through to finish. Most people don't realize how hard it is to pull something like this off... and then I had to make it into a wall paper. :)

You bet buddy! I expierenced that finishing a work doesn't mean enjoying it at the same time,
for you need some time to recover and get back to a more relaxed point of view after hard working.
All the best for your sculpt! Is it an online contest or real show?

So true, I was more happy with it after I finished taking the photos. It felt good the past 2 days only going to work and just relaxing afterwards.
This is the contest. Its hosted by deviant art. [link]

Fantastic detailing!

I know exactly what you mean when you get totally engrossed in the sculpting process, a total mad-dash towards deadline.

A unique piece in a highly competitive field. Best wishes.
